There's a lot of truth to what your saying. Tell anyone - male or female - that their terrible - wether it be terrible at maths or just terrible in general. And eventual the message will sink in and they'll not only start to believe it but they'll start to act in a way that confirms this belief.


When women work in organisations where they're not promoted or given the same opportunities as their male colleagues, they begin to think they're just not good enough. Vicious circle!


So true, Deborah.

It's sometimes the subtle messages, the unsaid messages that have the greatest impact. Sometimes we recognise it, when we describe the upper echelons of an organisation as a "boys' club". Unfortunately, challenging a message that is subtle, that is not written policy (or actively against written policy) or that is perceived differently between genders can be difficult.

You've given me lots to think about.
